2. Company’s status in industry
after calculating the indexes, Research Team provides some indicators of the business com-
pared to the industry based on the definition of median, lower quartile and higher quartile.

w Median value: if values are arranged from lower to higher, the value in the middle is called
the median (me). in other words, me cuts data set in half.

w Lower quartile: splits lowest 25% of data.

Therefore, company’s status in industry will be divided into four following cases:

- Range 1: Coded B1 (Bottom 25%): This is the range of value < lower quartile value, containing
25% lowest value of the industry. in other words, being in this range means company’s finan-
cial index is in the lowest group in the industry.

- Range 2: Coded B2 (25% - m): This is the range of value ≥ lower quartile value and < median
value. in other words, being in this range means company’s financial index is in the second low-
est group in the industry.

- Range 3: Coded T2 (m - 25%): This is the range of value ≥ median value and ≤ higher quartile
value. in other words, being in this range means company’s financial index is in the second

- Range 4: Coded T1 (Top 25%): This is the range of value > higher quartile value, containing
25% highest value of the industry. in other words, being in this range means company’s financial
index is in the highest group in the industry.

This enterprise is in branch coded C10 and its current ratio lies in the range of values greater
than (≥) the median value of the sector, but less than (<) the higher quartile value. in other words,
the company lies in the group of 320 companies with the second highest current ratio compared
to peers of C10 branch (manufacture of food products).
