FOREWORD
was a year with many resounding successes for the Vietnamese economy. GDP growth rate
was 7.08% yoy - the highest over the past 11 years and the economy witnessed positive
2018momentum in all three areas: production, supply and demand. This is considered a more
comprehensive development for Vietnamese economy when the quality of growth and business investment envi-
ronment is improved positively. Notably, the event that the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-
Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) officially entered into force has become a prominent highlight, not only bringing hope
for the future of international trade development towards liberalization, but also promoting the economic institution-
al reform as well as improving the business environment.
Under this context and for the occasion of the 12th Announcement Ceremony of Top 500 largest Enterprises
in Vietnam 2018 – VNR500 Ranking list, Vietnam Report has conducted some researches and published the
Bilingual White Paper Annual Report “Vietnam Economy 2019: Opportunities and Pressures from
cPTPP Agreement”. The content of the Report focuses on analyzing the economic situation in 2018 – accomplish-
ments, remaining and emerging challenges at the edges of deeper integration, while assessing the impacts of CPTPP
Agreement on Vietnam’s investment and trade as a whole and on key economic sectors in particular, thereby sup-
porting businesses with their strategic orientation. In addition, the updated information of the Top 50 Vietnam The
Best is also introduced in the last section of the report.
Vietnam Report Editorial Board hopes that the White Paper Vietnam Economy 2019: Opportunities and
Pressures from cPTPP Agreement, published in January, 2019 will be a useful reference for the business com-
munity and readers in general.
